In an interview published in Tuesday's issue of the daily, Georgette Mosbacher was cited as saying she believes the issue of the rule of law in Poland is strongly politicized.

Mosbacher was quoted as saying she had the impression that the West had not yet come to terms with the fact that Poland and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe were no longer at the periphery of Europe, a position to which they were relegated by communism.

Poland is a rapidly developing, well-educated country and a strong competitor for the rest of Europe; some in the West do not necessarily feel comfortable with that, Super Express cited her as saying.

Mosbacher added, according to the daily, that Poland is a big international player, a fact that Western Europe does not yet understand.

Allegations that Poland’s ruling conservatives have undermined the rule of law and democracy have led to a series of clashes between Warsaw and Brussels. Poland’s governing Law and Justice party denies such charges.
