The European Commission has proposed boosting the fund overall to EUR 40 billion. The money aims to help member states speed up efforts towards climate neutrality.

Poland was initially to receive EUR 2 billion. Documents published on Thursday by the commission indicate that the country is now in line for four times that amount, and more than any other EU state.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday that the European Union’s recovery plan and its proposal to hike the Just Transition Fund was good news and a starting point for further negotiations.
