Ambassador Georgette Mosbacher wrote on Twitter: “Mr. President … congratulations on your reelection! I’m looking forward to continuing strong US-Polish cooperation!”

With 99.98 percent of the ballots counted, Duda had 51.12 percent of the vote, while opposition-backed challenger Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, had 48.88 percent, Poland’s National Electoral Commission (PKW) said on Monday, a day after the country’s runoff presidential election.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has also congratulated Duda on winning the race.

Following talks with Duda at the White House last month, US leader Donald Trump said the two men had “reaffirmed the vital alliance” between their countries.
