“Congratulations to my friend President Andrzej Duda of Poland on his historic re-election!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

He added: “Looking forward to continuing our important work together across many issues, including defense, trade, energy, and telecommunications security!”

Duda gained 51.03 percent of the vote in Poland’s presidential runoff election on Sunday and secured another five-year term in office.

Opposition-backed challenger Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, had 48.97 percent, the National Electoral Commission (PKW) said on Monday evening, giving the full results.

Duda held talks with Trump at the White House last month, just days ahead the first round of the Polish presidential ballot, which took place on June 28.

After the meeting in Washington, Trump said he and Duda had “reaffirmed the vital alliance” between their countries.
