After bringing the kids to safety he disappeared. He was later washed up on the beach.
The emergency services attempted to resuscitate him. He was rushed to hospital, where he died.
The kids were the children of a German tourist. The 37-year-old Pole was an immigrant worker in the Netherlands.
The incident took place on Sunday.
