Polish president to visit Italy, Vatican next month

Polish President Andrzej Duda has said he will visit Italy and the Vatican on his first foreign trip after being recently re-elected as head of state.

He told reporters that his three-day trip beginning on September 22 would include talks will Italian officials in Rome and a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican.

“It is a very important trip for me,” Duda said in an interview with broadcaster Polsat News on Thursday evening.

“I think many Poles will agree that this is where I should travel at the start of my second term as president," he added.

Duda was sworn into his second term in office before both houses of Poland’s parliament in Warsaw on Thursday.
