Andżelika Borys was held in the city of Grodno in western Belarus, close to the border with Poland, on Tuesday afternoon, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz wrote on Twitter that a Polish consul in Grodno was contacting the local authorities "in order to clarify the circumstances of the detention and to establish contact" with Borys.

The association of Poles which Borys heads is not recognized by the Belarusian authorities but is nevertheless active, according to the PAP news agency.
