Duda said the meeting on Tuesday covered issues including the disputed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, renewable energy, and the creation of interconnected regional energy grids.

Duda thanked Kaljulaid for taking part in celebrations in Warsaw on Monday to mark the 230th anniversary of the adoption of a historic Polish constitution on May 3, 1791.

Nord Stream 2, designed to double the capacity of the existing Nord Stream undersea gas pipeline, is expected to send around 55 billion cubic metres of Russian natural gas a year directly to Germany under the Baltic Sea while bypassing the Baltic states, Poland and Ukraine.

Poland has strongly criticised the gas link amid concerns that the pipeline, which is almost complete, will make the European Union more dependent on Russian gas.
