Zbigniew Rau discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues as well as economic and scientific cooperation with his Lithuanian counterpart Gabrielius Landsbergis, according to the foreign ministry in Warsaw.

The two top diplomats talked about security policy and measures to contain a migrant crisis on the border with Belarus, according to officials.

While in Vilnius, Rau was also scheduled to meet with Lithuania's President Gitanas Nausėda, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and parliamentary Speaker Saimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

Rau's trip to Vilnius marked 30 years since Poland and Lithuania reestablished diplomatic relations, the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

It noted that Poland recognized Lithuania’s independence from the Soviet Union on August 26, 1991 and the two countries reestablished diplomatic relations on September 5, 1991.
