"Due to the extremely difficult situation in Romania caused by COVID-19 ... we decided to send a medical mission," Mateusz Morawiecki wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

He said the decision followed consultations with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Romanian Prime Minister Florin Cîțu.

"Let's get through this together!" Morawiecki added.

Romania has seen record numbers of new coronavirus infections and deaths over the past week or so as it battles a surge of the pandemic, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
