Mateusz Morawiecki made the appeal ahead of the informal European Council summit in Paris, France, the state PAP news agency reported.

The Polish PM said it was “not fair” that some EU leaders wanted to “close the EU’s door on Ukraine” at a time when Ukrainians were dying “for our freedom, for our democracy and security.”

Morawiecki’s words came as the Russian invasion of Ukraine raged for the fifteenth day.

The PM called for tougher sanctions against Moscow for its aggression, adding that it was the only way to stop the “cruel slaughter” it had inflicted on Ukrainians.

Russia’s assault on Ukraine began on February 24.
