Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, has criticised a statement by German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht, claiming it encourages Russia to commit further atrocities in Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian official, each statement by EU politicians rejecting the possibility of NATO intervening against Russian forces in Ukraine "encourages Russia to massacre in the country."

🇩🇪 minister #Lambrecht openly said: "NATO won’t intervene in the conflict & won’t create a no-fly zone in 🇺🇦". Each such statement by 🇪🇺 politicians encourages 🇷🇺 to massacre in 🇺🇦. If you don’t recognize the war & are afraid of Putin, at least don’t make provocative statements.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has rejected repeated requests by Ukraine, which is not a member of NATO, to implement a no-fly zone over the country.

The US-led alliance has said such a decision could lead to a wider war between the United States and Russia, the world's two biggest nuclear powers.

US President Joe Biden said on March 11: "We will not fight a war against Russia in Ukraine. Direct conflict between NATO and Russia is World War III, something we must strive to prevent."

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office reported that Russian troops have killed 112 children in Ukraine since February 24.

Saturday marks day 24 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
