Ukrainian forces destroy Russian paratrooper unit: report

Ukrainian forces say they have destroyed a unit of Russian paratroopers from the 76th Guards Air Assault Division.

"In one of their deployments, soldiers with the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed two combat vehicles and 14 occupiers with the Pskov-based 76th Guards Air Assault Division of the Russian armed forces," the Ukrainian Airborne Assault Troops Command has said in a statement, as quoted by the ukrinform.net website.

"The ID of one of the killed invaders - Senior Lieutenant Roman Lokotkov - shows that he served with the 728th Separate Communications Battalion of the 76th Airborne Assault Division," the statement said, according to ukrinform.net.

Around 29,200 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Vladimir Putin invaded the country on February 24ukrinform.net reported on Monday, citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Russians have also lost "1,293 tanks, 3,166 combat armored vehicles, 604 artillery systems, 201 multiple launch rocket systems, 93 air defense systems, 204 warplanes, 170 helicopters, and 2,157 motor vehicles," according to the Ukrainian army.

Monday is day 89 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
