The deal also includes three tactical vehicles, rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition, demolition munitions, counter-battery systems, as well as spare parts.

According to the Pentagon’s website, the “United States has committed $2.2 billion of security assistance to Ukraine in the last three weeks.”

"In total, the United States has committed approximately $8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration,” Pentagon also said in a statement.

It also added that it is the fifteenth drawdown of equipment for Ukraine since August 2021.

Ukraine says it needs the long-range rocket launcher systems to better match the range of Russian artillery being used to strike Ukrainian positions in the eastern Donbas region, which Kremlin claims on behalf of separatists and where fighting has recently intensified, the Reuters news agency reported.

According to Reuters, Washington said it had received assurances from Kyiv that the long-range weapons would not be used to attack Russian territory.
