The OSCE reported in late April that it was seeking the release of four Ukrainian employees of the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM), who had been captured by Russian troops in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine.
One of these individuals has since been released, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
“I wish to recall their contributions to the SMM’s former mandate to provide impartial information related to the security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine,” Rau said in a statement published on Tuesday together with OSCE Secretary-General Helga Maria Schmid.
“We call for their immediate release,” the statement added.
Schmid said in the statement: “I call again attention to the unacceptable situation of the national OSCE Mission members still detained in non-government controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk, detained for engaging in their official duties as OSCE staff."
Poland is at the helm of the OSCE in 2022 and the Polish foreign minister is the organization's chairman-in-office until the end of the year.
