The Polish foreign ministry said in a statement that Rau "will take part in sessions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly" on Monday and Tuesday.

It added that Rau "will also attend a ministerial event to mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court."

Rau's engagements in New York will focus on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, including the suffering of the Ukrainian civilian population and "human rights violations in areas occupied by Russia and forced deportations of children," according to the Polish foreign ministry.

Poland's top diplomat will also discuss "the need for the international community to provide Ukraine with ongoing support," it said.

Another aspect of Rau’s visit will be "a discussion about the priorities of Poland’s three-year term in the UN Economic and Social Council, which will start next year," the Polish foreign ministry added.

While in New York, Rau plans to hold talks with officials including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and meet with members of the Polish community in America, according to the statement.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Monday is day 509 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
