The talks are expected to focus on Ukraine's defense against Russia and efforts to bolster NATO's eastern flank in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Polish foreign ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński told reporters.

Other topics up for discussion include preparations for NATO's Washington summit in July and the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Western military alliance, he said.

Beyond security matters, Sikorski will also engage in discussions on energy and infrastructure cooperation between Poland and Latvia, according to Wroński.

The spokesman underscored the relevance of recent events, such as the flight of a Russian missile over Polish territory, in shaping discussions about potential threats from Moscow, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

"These events have become extremely relevant due to potential threats from Russia," Wroński said.

Referring to recent Western initiatives to strengthen Ukraine, Wroński highlighted Poland's participation in EU efforts such as a Czech-led ammunition initiative and support for boosting the bloc's defense capabilities through the European Peace Facility, the PAP news agency reported.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 763 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
