Keir Starmer led Britain’s Labour Party to a landslide election victory, and on Friday became the country’s prime minister. However, did Labour actually win because he told Britons they would be poorer than Poles?

“I’m not comfortable with a trajectory that'll soon see Britain overtaken by Poland, nor am I prepared to accept what the consequences of this failure would mean. […] A brain drain not just to London or Edinburgh but to Leon, Munich and Warsaw, that's not the future our country deserves”, Starmer said last year.
