Sikorski’s visit to Manila marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and the Philippines, a milestone noted by Secretary Manalo during their discussions.
Manalo pointed to the recent intensification of bilateral relations, including the establishment of embassies in both countries and a series of political consultations. The agenda for Wednesday’s talks covered a broad range of issues, including economic cooperation, information technology, environmental concerns, migration, and geopolitical matters. Manalo emphasized that both nations are bound by a mutual respect for principles and the rule of law.
Sikorski acknowledged that while relations between Poland and the Philippines had not been particularly robust in the past, the two countries now face similar challenges despite geographical distance.
“We are located in regions where tensions are escalating. We have powerful neighbors with authoritarian tendencies. We are strong allies of the United States and share a Catholic heritage, which means we can achieve more together,” Sikorski stated, and announced plans for further diplomatic visits in the near future.
