Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized that signing the strategic partnership agreement with Poland strengthens the ties between the two countries, and that Poland's security is also Sweden's security.
Donald Tusk highlighted that the countries of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8 – Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) share a unified stance on the war in Ukraine and assured that cooperation in the Baltic region will be effective, grounded in solidarity and joint actions.
"Thank you for understanding the need for an energy union in Europe, which will make us truly competitive in energy pricing. Sweden and Poland are open to cooperation in this area," said Polish PM Donald Tusk during his remarks at a conference following his meeting with the head of the Swedish government, Ulf Kristersson.
Polish PM Tusk emphasized that, thanks to Sweden's initiative, it became clear that our countries share a common responsibility for the security of this part of Europe, the eastern border of the EU and NATO, and the security of the Baltic Sea.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the countries largely responsible for the security of the eastern border of the European Union and NATO are speaking with one voice.
„We are forming a group not only based on good intentions but also on joint actions,” pointed out Donald Tusk and thanked for the cooperation in the area of Baltic Sea security operations.
The Polish Prime Minister praised Sweden for fully understanding the need to manage the situation in the Baltic Sea, which he considers strategically important for the security system.
"For Poland and Sweden, cooperation is a great opportunity. Poland is becoming an increasingly attractive place for investment and collaboration, as confirmed by today's talks," noted Donald Tusk.
The Polish Prime Minister also assured that Poland, together with Sweden, will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, as well as in the country's future reconstruction after the Russian invasion.
He also stated that after today’s meeting with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, he can confirm that Norway will take responsibility for the security of the hub in Jasionka, located in southeastern Poland, which is crucial for delivering aid to Ukraine.
Europe must take responsibility for its own security, says PM Tusk in Sweden
"The Nordic, Baltic, and Polish countries are forming a solid bloc. I believe this will send a very important signal to Europe that we are united in this matter," Tusk said.
He also emphasized that Poland's upcoming presidency of the EU will be "our shared responsibility."
"Europe must take responsibility for its own security," stressed PM Tusk during his speech in Sweden.
"I hope that the coming year, with both Polish and Danish presidencies and the involvement of our Nordic and Baltic partners, will set the tone for necessary changes in European philosophy. I'm talking not only about defense but also deregulation, support for entrepreneurship, and energy prices," the Polish Prime Minister added.
