"Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome," Trump said in a post to his social media platform Truth Social on Monday.
"We look forward to being there," he added.
Francis, who led the Roman Catholic Church for 12 years, died of "a stroke, followed by a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse," the Vatican's press office said on Monday evening.
The Vatican has yet to confirm a date for the funeral, though it is expected to take place sometime between Friday and Sunday, the Reuters news agency reported.
The ceremony is likely to draw dozens of world leaders to Rome.
Polish leaders pay tribute
Top Polish officials paid tribute to the late pontiff, describing him as "a great apostle of mercy" and "a good, warm and sensitive man."
The Polish foreign ministry said: "The Holy Father united the hearts of millions with his kindness."
The pope's death came just hours after he appeared in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on Easter Sunday to greet the faithful.
'I was happy to see him yesterday': US VP
US Vice President JD Vance, one of the last public figures to meet briefly with Francis on Easter Sunday, expressed his condolences on Monday.
"My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him," Vance said on X.
"I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill," he added.
Warsaw to hold special Mass for Francis
Meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Warsaw has announced that a special Mass in memory of Pope Francis will be held on Wednesday evening at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in the Polish capital.
The service will be led by Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, the papal nuncio to Poland.
Ahead of the Mass, the basilica's bells will toll 88 times—symbolically marking each year of Francis' life.
