Trump wrote on Truth Social that “something has happened” to the Russian leader, accusing him of “needlessly killing a lot of people” with a weekend barrage of 367 drones and missiles that Kyiv says left 13 dead.
“I’ve always said that he wants all of Ukraine […] but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” he added.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov retorted that the remarks were “connected to an emotional overload of everyone involved,” while insisting Russia’s strikes were retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian “social infrastructure.”
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky called the bombardment “an obvious political choice […] to continue the war and destroy lives,” as his air force logged a further 355 drones launched between Sunday night and Monday morning.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said allies had now removed range limits on weapons supplied to Kyiv, signaling Berlin may approve the long-debated Taurus cruise missile.
“This means Ukraine can now defend itself […] by attacking military positions in Russia,” he told reporters.
