Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Thursday that Singaporean companies are eyeing stakes in Poland’s planned mega-airport hub and defense projects, adding that Warsaw can serve as the city-state’s “gateway to the European Union.

Wrapping up day two of a state visit to the island nation, Duda told reporters he had discussed economic, cybersecurity and new-technology cooperation in talks with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and executives of defense contractor ST Engineering.

Duda said that large Singaporean companies are interested in the development of the Central Communication Port (CPK), a planned mega-airport west of Warsaw, and the investment opportunities that this investment provides. According to Duda, the number of investments planned by Singaporean companies will increase.

“Singapore views the EU partly through Poland and sees great scope to expand its business plans in our market,” Duda said, pledging that Poland’s growth prospects make it “an excellent launching pad” for Asian investors.

The conservative leader said ST Engineering is studying joint production of a combat vehicle to replace Poland’s Finnish-licensed Rosomak armored personnel carrier. Discussions are ongoing, he added.

Duda also thanked Singapore for its “unequivocal” condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—an unusual stance among Southeast Asian states, he noted—and stressed the need for global support of Kyiv.

On Friday, he will address a Poland-Singapore business forum and meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong before concluding a trip that has already taken him to Malaysia.
