Iran described the strike as "devastating and powerful," but US officials said no American personnel were killed or injured, the Reuters news agency reported.
Iran, which had been warned by Washington not to retaliate or face massive US military action, had notified both the United States and Qatari authorities of the impending strike via diplomatic channels hours in advance, Reuters said, citing a senior regional source it did not name.
Qatar's defence minister told the Al Jazeera news agency that the country’s air defences intercepted missiles targeting Al Udeid, the largest US military base in the Middle East.
'Congratulations world, it's time for peace': Trump
US President Donald Trump said in a social media message that no Americans and no Qataris were killed or wounded in the attack.
"Congratulations world, it's time for peace," Trump also wrote.
The missile strike followed US air raids on Sunday, in which American bombers targeted three Iranian nuclear and military facilities, according to reports.
Trump declared the sites "totally obliterated" and warned that any Iranian retaliation would trigger a US response with "force far greater" than the initial strikes.
