A drone recording has captured the sprawling estate of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s family in Hatvanpuszta, near Budapest, revealing manicured grounds and zebras grazing nearby.
The property, worth an estimated €30 million, occupies former Habsburg land established in the 19th century by Archduke Joseph, palatine of Hungary.
The zebras, which Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski mocked in a social media post asking if they were “traditional farm animals in Hungary,” belong to Lőrinc Mészáros, the country’s wealthiest businessman and a close Orbán ally, Hungarian journalists reported.
Sikorski has repeatedly criticized Orbán, accusing him of making Hungary the poorest EU member. The estate has drawn comparisons to the lavish Mezhyhirya residence of ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, once a symbol of corruption and excess before his fall during the 2014 Maidan protests.
