18.09.2025 08:55
A journalist from The Guardian who accompanied Prince Harry on his secretly planned trip to Kyiv has shed light on the royal’s stop at the border crossing in Medyka, southeastern Poland, where he grabbed a quick bite from a roadside food truck.
Britains Prince Harry visited Ukraine and met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during a surprise visit on 12 September 2025, amid Russias ongoing invasion.

Prince Harry made a surprise visit to Ukraine on 12 September 2025, meeting with leaders including Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

His trip focused on promoting the Invictus Games Foundation, which supports wounded veterans of the war with Russia.

The Games have become widely recognised in Ukraine, where Harry has, somewhat unexpectedly, achieved near folk-hero status.

For security reasons, details of the visit were kept under wraps. But because the prince was accompanied by a Guardian journalist - despite the paper’s long-standing criticism of the monarchy - slightly more information has filtered into the media.

According to the report, Harry “in private is very informal, padding around in his socks on the train to and from Kyiv and making dad jokes,” and “can be quite funny.”

On his way to Kyiv, accessible only by train, Harry paused briefly in Medyka. The Guardian published a photo of him eating fries from a local food truck.

The business owners, Damian Drozdów and Ela Krupa, proudly shared news of their unexpected guest on social media and encouraged others to try their menu.

In an interview with a Polish tabloid Fakt, they explained that a typo in the spelling of “food truck” on their stall was deliberate - a playful localisation of the term.

They also confirmed that Prince Harry arrived late in the evening, about fifteen minutes before closing, and ordered plain salted fries without ketchup, priced at 10 PLN (about €2.35).
