The object hit the roof, pierced the ceiling and landed inside one of the rooms, ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński told TVN24.
He first said the incident was likely caused by an anti-aircraft artillery shell, but closer onsite examination revealed that it was rather a missile fragment. The incident marked the second time in recent months the embassy had suffered damage in Russian attacks.
Despite the strike, the embassy continues to operate normally.
“Our mission in Kyiv works permanently. It will also work tomorrow and in the following days,” Wroński said.
Ukrainian officials reported widespread damage and fires across the country following a Russian air-strike, which included ballistic and cruise missiles as well as swarms of Shahed drones targeting Kyiv and other cities including Zaporizhzhia and Khmelnytskyi.
Wroński said Russia launched about 500 drones and 40 different types of missiles during the night assault.
