EU to fund special tribunal over Russia’s war against Ukraine

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced during a visit to Kyiv that the European Union will fund a special tribunal to prosecute Vladimir Putin and senior Russian officials for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

“The evidence of Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine is plain to see. Unpunished crimes only encourage new atrocities,” Kallas said, adding that the EU is providing an initial €10 million to help establish the tribunal and ensure accountability.

The court will focus on holding Russia’s top leadership responsible for launching and waging an illegal war against a sovereign state.

Kallas emphasized that justice must be served to prevent future aggression and restore international law.

During her stay in Kyiv, she also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
