Romanian Defense Minister Ionut Mosteanu said Monday the agreement covers 18 F-16 Fighting Falcons and related equipment from the Dutch government, calling it “an important step” in developing the European F-16 Training Center in Fetesti, which serves pilots from NATO and partner countries. He said the jets will be used exclusively for training.
“F-16 means security, cooperation and a step closer to the next stage: integrating F-35 aircraft into the Romanian Air Force,” Mosteanu wrote, describing the move as a “wise investment” that reflects Dutch trust and the professionalism of Romania’s air force.
Dutch ambassador Willemijn van Haaften said the two countries work closely on security and defense, noting both are NATO partners focused on deterrence and security on the alliance’s eastern flank.
She added that the European F-16 Training Center showcases “excellent cooperation” and that both states remain committed to supporting Ukraine.
