"If a request comes to NATO to discuss protection of the Strait of Hormuz, out of respect and goodwill towards our American ally, we will consider it," Sikorski told reporters in Brussels.
He noted, however, that no Article 4 consultation – the NATO mechanism for discussing security threats – has been triggered so far.
He also pointed out that Polish President Karol Nawrocki has already ruled out deploying Polish troops to any such operation.
Sikorski added that he was somewhat concerned by US President Donald Trump's habit of referring to NATO as "them" and "Europe", rather than "us".
The remarks follow Trump's renewed call on Sunday for allied nations to join an operation aimed at keeping the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz open.
The waterway, which Iran has threatened to blockade, is a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies.
