Addressing the gathering, Trump said he was proud to welcome Polish Americans to Washington as they marked the 250th anniversary of Poland's contribution to the United States.
He credited historical figures such as generals Kazimierz Pułaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko with helping secure American independence, saying the country might not exist today without them.
He thanked the community for its support during his 2024 presidential campaign.
"Polish people helped me a lot in that election," he said, adding that with their continued backing he would work to stop what he described as attempts "to make America into a communist country" — a reference to November's congressional vote.
Trump also praised Nawrocki directly.
"I'm also a great friend of the people of Poland, and I especially want to thank your unbelievable president Karol Nawrocki," he said.
"Karol is a great fighter, a strong person. I endorsed him and he won."
He called the Polish leader's victory "the talk of Europe" and said he was glad to have played a part in it.
He further expressed gratitude for a plaque presented by Poland to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, which he said would be placed on Washington's planned triumphal arch.
Attendees at the event were able to see the item on display.
