The meeting, originally planned for 23 September, was postponed at the request of the US side. The Pentagon said it was due to a scheduling conflict.
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said on Tuesday that the meeting could take place in mid-November, adding that discussions on a new date had already begun and that both sides had put forward possible dates.
“I know there has been a lot of speculation on the Polish side about what happened. Nothing happened, it was simply a change of date, which happens in diplomacy. Prime Minister Kosiniak will still travel to the United States,” Sobkowiak-Czarnecka stressed.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the United States from Wednesday to Friday last week. Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said US officials had assured her that the change was “only and exclusively” related to Xi’s visit.
During her recent visit to Washington, she said she saw how much importance the Trump administration attached to Xi’s visit. She added that the Chinese leader’s visit ultimately expanded to include greater involvement from Hegseth himself.
Kosiniak-Kamysz previously said his talks with Hegseth would cover Polish security and discussions on the location of a maintenance centre for PAC-3 missiles used by Patriot air-defence systems in Poland.
