US to fund Romania-Moldova power line named after Trump

A new high-voltage line connecting Romania and Moldova will officially be called the “Trump Liberty Line,” after the US government pledged USD 130 million (about EUR 116 million) for the project.

The US embassy in Chișinău said the line would be named after US President Donald Trump because of the American funding. 

Last week marked an important step forward for Moldova’s energy future as the Ministry of Energy, Moldelectrica, Black & Veatch, and the U.S. Embassy Chisinau launched the Strășeni–Gutinaș 'Trump Liberty Line' working group. Backed by a $130 million U.S. government investment, this project will strengthen Moldova’s energy security and independence, expand opportunities for U.S. businesses and technologies across multiple sectors, and deepen the U.S.-Moldova economic partnership. 🔗 More information about the project: https://t.co/yKOaTDWNxQ

The Strășeni-Gutinaș high-voltage line is expected to be around 190 kilometres long, with 70 kilometres running through Moldova. 

The project is officially presented as strategically important for Moldova's energy security and is intended to help the country integrate into the European energy market.
