The Ministry of Digital Affairs said on Friday that Poland, which currently participates in DC-EDIC as an observer, would be represented in the consortium by the ministry once it becomes a full member.
The consortium’s existing member states are the Netherlands, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Italy.
DC-EDIC supports the development, deployment and maintenance of digital commons, namely open technologies and digital resources that different organisations can use and develop.
Poland’s membership is part of the implementation of its Digitalisation Strategy to 2035, which envisages wider use and development of open-source software in the public sector.
The ministry said Polish technology companies would be able to participate actively in European projects, build international strategic partnerships and help develop open digital components and solutions for public administrations across Europe.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen Poland’s and Europe’s digital sovereignty by giving members greater choice and control over the technologies they use.
The ministry said open-source code allows public institutions to adapt technologies to their needs, reduces dependence on individual suppliers and enables them to share solutions already used successfully in other countries and institutions.
The European Digital Infrastructure Consortium framework was established under the EU’s Path to the Digital Decade policy programme to 2030. It enables EU member states to carry out joint digitalisation projects.
DC-EDIC supports cooperation between public administrations, the technology sector and open-source communities, and helps turn European initiatives into practical solutions.
