Godson, who has dual Nigerian and Polish citizenship, said on Twitter on Thursday that he would be joining the presidential race in the western African country in 2023.
Godson is an academic, community worker and manager. He was a member of the lower house of Poland’s parliament from 2007 to 2015 for the previously governing centrist Civic Platform (PO) party.
He was also deputy leader of the centre-right Poland Together party from 2013 to 2014.
Godson holds a master’s degree in agriculture from Abia State University in Nigeria. He pursued doctoral studies in journalism, political science and management at the University of Warsaw and the University of Łódź in central Poland.
He was also a pastor for the Church of God in Christ and an elected local government official in the Poland’s Łódź from 2008 to 2010.
In 2014, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Łódź.
In 2015, he was named among the 100 most influential people in Africa by The New African magazine.
On November 14, 2016, he received the Bene Merito award from the Polish foreign ministry for his contribution to strengthening Poland's position on the international arena.
