Iraq's al-Kadhimi escaped unharmed from an armed drone assassination attempt in Baghdad, officials said on Sunday, in an incident that raised tension in Iraq weeks after a general election disputed by Iran-backed militia groups, the Reuters news agency reported.

"Poland strongly condemns tonight’s attack on the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi,” the foreign ministry in Warsaw said in a statement on Sunday.

It added: “We reject all destabilisation attempts, terror acts and any actions aimed against democratisation of the Republic of Iraq.”

The statement called "on all parties to refrain from violence, to preserve peace, to act responsibly and to undertake political dialogue, for the sake of de-escalation of tensions, safety of all Iraqi citizens and stability in the region."
