The website on Tuesday night published a photo of a dead man in a green uniform and a helmet, identifying him as Gen. Oleg Mityaev, the commander of the elite 150th motorised rifle division, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

According to telegraf.com.ua, Mityaev led the Russian units who in 2015 invaded Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.

News of his death was also carried by the Nexta website, which published an official photo of Mityaev on Twitter.

"A Russian major general was slain. The General, Oleg Mityaev, was the Commander of the 150th motorized rifle division,” the website wrote.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities listed eight members of the Russian army’s highest command as having been killed since the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, PAP reported.
