Posting a photo from his hospital bed on Thursday, the 81-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate wrote, “Thank God, it worked out once again.”
His office director, Marek Kaczmar, confirmed to the Polish tabloid Fakt that Wałęsa was initially treated in Warsaw before being transferred to a specialist orthopaedic clinic in Otwock, outside the capital. The retired politician was not treated in his hometown of Gdańsk in northern Poland.

Officials did not disclose the precise nature of his condition but said the procedure had been brought forward because of persistent shoulder pain and damage requiring surgical intervention.
Lech Wałęsa has also struggled for years with heart problems and diabetes, which has led to diabetic foot, a serious complication of the disease.
