Poland on Monday reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defence within internationally recognised borders but strongly condemned the scale of civilian casualties in Gaza, saying Israel has failed in its obligation to protect civilians as an occupying power.

“Poland does not accept the number of civilian deaths caused by Israeli forces in their declared effort to eliminate Hamas’ combat and organizational capabilities,” the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

"Israel has a duty to protect the civilian population—and it is not fulfilling that obligation," it added.

The statement underscored Poland’s opposition to the use of humanitarian access restrictions as a means of achieving military or political objectives.

"There will never be Polish consent for the use of starvation as a weapon, or the creation of concentration camps as a means of resolving the conflict," the statement said.

Poland also reiterated its long-standing support for Palestinian statehood, which it has recognised since 1988.

The Polish foreign ministry said that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict "is resulting in an unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe and civilian suffering."

"Poland unconditionally condemns this act of terror and consistently calls for the immediate release of all hostages," the statement said.
