Nearly 71.8% of respondents said Trump should not receive the award, 10.8% said he should, and 17.4% were undecided, according to the poll by SW Research for Polish weekly Wprost.
Jakub Graca of the Institute of New Europe told public radio that Trump’s drive to end the war in Ukraine is linked to his interest in the prize, calling it “a mini obsession” and saying “he really cares about it,” as people around him attest.
Trump has repeatedly argued he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, saying last week he had ended or halted six wars in six months and contending he would not receive the honor because of his political views.
He has said he once thought Russia’s war against Ukraine would be the “easiest” conflict to resolve, but now views it as among the most difficult.
The article noted that leaders from Azerbaijan and Armenia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cambodia and Israel have voiced support for his pursuit.
Political scientist Wawrzyniec Konarski argued Trump’s record does not justify a peace-maker label, saying he is not “a ‘dove of peace’” and citing what he called provocative actions toward Palestinians, including appearing on the Temple Mount, as well as a recent attack on Iran involving U.S. forces.
