Poland deploys troops to Denmark for Copenhagen summit

30 soldiers from Poland have been sent to Denmark on a temprorary mission to help provide security during a major summit in Copenhagen, running until 3 October 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the Polish Military Contingent "Viking" will support allies in maintaining security and protecting Danish infrastructure in the coming days.

Poland's Armed Forces Operational Command explained that the soldiers, equipped with specialized gear, will carry out tasks related to the protection and security of both military and civilian areas, underscoring Poland's active role in strengthening international security.

The informal meeting of Europen leaders, beginning on Wednesday, 1 October after 1 p.m., will be focus on boosting Europe's defense - particularly on its eastern flank - and on supporting Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the gathering serves as preparation for the official summit scheduled in Brussels three weeks later, stressing that Europe must repspond firmly to Russian drone attacks violating EU borders.
