Nineteen others are still being treated in hospitals after two trains collided head-on.
Slovak media report that the likely cause was human error after one driver began braking too late, stopping about 100 metres beyond the signal and onto the opposite track.
Police are investigating the incident as a case of endangering public transport safety.
One of the train drivers was detained for questioning and later released, while the other - seriously injured - remains in hospital. So far, no charges have been filed.
