The diplomat was unharmed despite the incident, which took place in the presence of Poland’s State Protection Service (SOP) officers.
Speaking to the media, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór confirmed the attack and said Poland had lodged a formal protest with the Russian chargé d’affaires on Wednesday.
Wewiór described the assailants as an “aggressive group with banners” who attempted to escalate from verbal abuse to physical assault but were restrained by SOP officers.
The diplomat added that the Russian side acknowledged that such incidents “should not take place.”
No serious injuries were reported.
