President Donald Trump has criticised Brussels for imposing a €120m penalty on X, the platform owned by Elon Musk, warning that Europe may be heading in the wrong direction.
On Friday, the European Commission imposed a 120m fine on X, the platform owned by Elon Musk. In response, the company suspended the Commissions advertising account. President Donald Trump has now weighed in on the dispute.

As reported by Polish Radio’s White House correspondent Marek Wałkuski, Trump questioned whether EU regulators could convincingly justify the decision and said he would seek a full briefing from his advisers.

The president suggested the ruling reflected a broader regulatory shift in Europe that, in his view, risks eroding the continent’s traditional strengths.

The concern echoes themes raised in his recent national security strategy, where he urged European partners not to drift away from their core identity.

Close associates of the president described the fine as part of a pattern of pressure faced by major US technology companies in the EU.

European officials maintain that X violated transparency obligations by restricting access to public-interest data, keeping an incomplete archive of advertising and employing features - including its verification badge system - that critics say could mislead users.
