Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday hailed what he called a "good meeting" with US Ambassador Thomas Rose, describing the diplomat as "a true friend of Poland" with a strong grasp of the country's internal and external affairs.

"Good meeting. Ambassador Rose is a true friend of Poland and has a great understanding of our external and internal situation," Tusk wrote on X after the talks.

Rose, for his part, said it was "a great honor" to meet with Tusk, calling him "a great Polish patriot and widely respected leader."

“Our conversation underscored how vital Poland is to the United States and how much we can achieve together," Rose said.

"Under President Donald Trump’s America First leadership, the U.S.-Poland alliance continues to grow stronger, guided by leaders like PM Tusk," he added.

Rose, a conservative political commentator appointed by Trump, was sworn in as ambassador in mid-October. He presented his credentials to President Karol Nawrocki on November 6 at Warsaw’s Belweder Palace.

During his Senate confirmation hearing in July, Rose described Poland as "not only an ally, but family," according to reports.

In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he praised Poland as a model American ally and emphasised that the country was a victim, not a perpetrator, of the Holocaust, according to Polish private broadcaster TVN.

In an interview at the time, Rose said he intended to work with both the governing coalition and the opposition.

"We have excellent relations with the current government, we had excellent relations with the previous government under Prime Minister Morawiecki, and we are getting along just as well with Prime Minister Tusk and Foreign Minister Sikorski," he said.

Rose said his priority as ambassador would be to deepen ties between the United States and Poland.

Rose previously served as an adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence and was publisher and CEO of The Jerusalem Post from 1997 to 2005. He also co-hosted a conservative talk show with Gary Bauer, a candidate for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination.
