The advisory, published on December 16, highlights unstable conditions in Thai provinces including Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Trat, and islands such as Koh Chang, Ko Kut, and Ko Mak, as well as Cambodian provinces Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey, with additional caution for border areas in Chanthaburi (Thailand) and Koh Kong and Pursat (Cambodia).

The embassy’s notice reflects the deteriorating security situation, with military clashes prompting evacuations affecting approximately 800,000 civilians.

Cambodia has closed all border crossings with Thailand indefinitely, citing acts of aggression that have resulted in civilian deaths and infrastructure damage, while authorities have advised citizens in both countries to remain in place until a ceasefire is reached.

Fighting has spread to coastal areas of Trat province in Thailand, where a curfew has been imposed.

According to AFP reports, renewed clashes between the Southeast Asian neighbours this month have killed at least 34 people, including soldiers and civilians, and displaced around 800,000.

In Cambodia, the interior ministry reports that 17 civilians have been killed.
