Beata Płomecka, Polish Radio’s correspondent in Brussels, reports that the initiative seeks to mark 11 January, the anniversary of the March of a Thousand Robes in Warsaw.
Six years ago, judges and lawyers from 26 countries took part in a peaceful demonstration through the streets of Warsaw under the slogan “The right to independence, the right to Europe.”
The protest highlighted concerns over judicial independence and the rule of law in Poland.
The proposal is supported by Iustitia, a Polish judges’ association, in cooperation with European judicial organisations, and seeks to raise awareness of the importance of an independent judiciary across the EU.
Żurek’s attendance is expected to underscore Poland’s engagement in European discussions on judicial standards and the rule of law, providing a platform to debate the significance of safeguarding judicial independence in Europe.
