Chanting “ICE out of Minneapolis!” and carrying signs, demonstrators gathered near City Hall in freezing temperatures as tensions flared over the increased presence of federal agents in the city. The protest came weeks after Good’s death, which has become a flashpoint in the growing debate over immigration enforcement.
The demonstration briefly turned confrontational when a small group of right-wing activists, including Jake Lang—an influencer pardoned for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot—arrived and were quickly surrounded and pushed back by the crowd. Protesters threw snowballs and water balloons at the group. Police remained present but did not intervene.
Lang later claimed on social media he was stabbed during the protest, but police said no reports of such an incident had been filed.
“No one wants ICE in our city,” said 60-year-old Sara Steck, a counterprotester. “This city was built by immigrants. This is about more than just Renee Good.”
Minnesota authorities said the National Guard was placed on standby but not deployed. The protest highlighted deep divisions in Minneapolis as President Donald Trump’s administration pursues a more aggressive immigration policy.
