The teenager, Oliwia, who was on holiday in Malta with her family, went missing on the afternoon of Monday, 26 January 2026, after a very large wave struck the waterfront.
Her father, who managed to save her brother, was injured in the incident, according to Times of Malta.
At the time, weather conditions were severe, with rough seas and strong gusts of wind hampering the search for the girl.
A 13-year-old Polish girl who died after being swept out to sea at Ċirkewwa on Monday afternoon has been named as Oliwia Wojnowska.

Rescue operations involved CPD divers and swimmers, the Armed Forces of Malta, and Civil Protection Department and police teams on land. Divers were initially unable to enter the water due to dangerous sea conditions.

Her body was recovered on the morning of Wednesday, 28 January 2026, in Paradise Bay, near the spot where she disappeared, and was brought ashore at Marfa jetty around 10:30 am, as confirmed by Times of Malta.
The Police Support Response Team and the Polish Embassy are providing assistance to the family.
