Fico, a pro-Russian politician, intends to visit Moscow on May 9, when Russia marks Victory Day, commemorating the 1945 defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have all denied overflight permission for the Slovak delegation's plane, prompting Bratislava to seek an alternative route.
Polish foreign ministry spokesman Maciej Wewiór told public broadcaster Polish Radio that Warsaw had received the overflight request but gave no indication of how quickly a decision might come.
"There is still some time" before the planned flight, Wewiór said, adding that no deadline existed by which the request had to be reviewed.
Fico, responding to the Baltic refusals, said he remained undeterred. "I will certainly find another route to Moscow, just as I did last year," he said.
